Our Thanksgiving Game

Botox for my armpits.

I’m going to see just how many threads I can use this answer for.

We are going to take up a collection!!

( But only if you promise to provide before and after pics. Even though you aren’t doing it for the anti-wrinkle effect, that must be an unintended positive side effect, right?)

I’d have a Botox party for all my CC friends! Choose your body part!

(Just kidding; I’m scared of Botox).

My husband isn’t in favor of me getting botox on my face because, as he puts it, “I’d like to have a heads up that I made you mad”. The armpit botox makes you not sweat. Think of all the money I’d save on deodorant…

I’d also spend the money on laser hair removal, chihuahua rescue, the patreon website, and renting a fabulous studio space for a while.

If we each got $50K, 40 of us could go in on @coralbrook’s latest flip!

$5K - charity
$5-10K - home furnishings
The balance - cruises

That would be quite a spectacular timeshare!

Could we agree on the interior decorating, though? Decor by committee would be interesting.

One thing I do know is that to please the CC crowd, the kitchen would need an InstaPot and an egg thingie.

Would also want to add a more expensive exercise experience over my moderately priced gym such as yoga classes at a studio or a personal trainer. And a biweekly housekeeper.

Is plastic surgery in the rules?

To me, the “game” highlights the shortcomings of trusts – they really can make it difficult for beneficiaries to do what they most want to do. If they really want to remodel or refurbish their home but the trust doesn’t allow that as an option, that would be frustrating, especially if the remodel is urgently needed to accessability, safety or comfort.

When I was in law school, both of our wills and trusts profs spent a lot of time explaining the ways to minimize taxes by using trusts but both admitted they were leaving their assets outright to their spouses and not using trusts that just add complications. I found that very telling.

But if this were real life, there would be plenty of ways to structure expenses so that the “allowed” expenses are covered by the trust – food, clothing, entertainment expenses that the beneficiary would have incurred anyway – thereby freeing up funds for use for “disallowed” expenses.

To me trusts are a way of trying to control–from the grave. JMHO

A trust doesn’t necessarily have restrictions. It’s a way of distributing the assets. Once they have been distributed the trust is dissolved and everyone can do whatever they want with their part.

But, yes, they can also be written in such a way to limit how the funds are used and there could be good reasons for that (but, yes, it could also be a way to control).

Getting back to the “game”. I’d give to charity and like others would enjoy travel and dining out. I’d also probably update my furniture and buy/upgrade some fun "toys’ (read electronics).

^^^ Yes, in my “toys” i listed I think I’d like to buy each household (mine and all three of my kids) a nice iPad - so convenient for home and travel!

BTW, when is this $50k coming? I’m starting to get used to the idea!

Yes, I know trusts don’t HAVE to have restrictions but it appears in the “game” the person who started it was trying to figure out what people’s priorities are for consideration in formulating a trust. I was just surprised that our wills & trusts profs figured out that giving everything outright to their spouses was the preferred way to go for them and made me ponder.
