Our Update

Since Lafalum reminded me that I had forgotten to update, here’s the latest (with my apologies).

The family was spoken to by the police in a casual manner. Apparently, parents didn’t know about the last attack and weren’t pleased. Hubby’s friend seems to think that they will lie low. Which is probably positive, BUT with respect to the school, here’s the weird part. THe girl has disappeared off the face of the earth. Hasn’t returned to school since this all blew up and I heard through the grapevine (actually, a relative) that she might not return to school and might be considering graduating early. So at this point, we’re hopeful, but anxious that something might be brewing in the background although we don’t know what. There has been no contact at all since she hasn’t returned to school in over a week, so we can’t get a sense of anything.

I’ll report back when we actually know something and, thanks again for the support, suggestions and good wishes.

It sounds (cautiously speaking) like it’s going about as well as could be expected, so far. Continued good luck, and fingers crossed for things continuing to be quiet. If the daughter doesn’t return, for whatever reason, I’m sure that will be a relief to all of you.

Sounds, as Donna says, cautiously positive. Thanks for updating.

THanks guys! I didn’t update because I’m very confused and don’t know what to make of things. I’m still trying to get a handle on it.

When I spoke with one of the teachers, he was planning to refer her to the social worker for counseling. I don’t know if that could have happened yet. I hate being in the dark, but there haven’t been any more incidents, anyway.

I hope things continue along this path.

Do you know if the police notified CPS?
If they haven’t they should- because I think it is probable the daughter is being abused or at risk.
CPS will also do more of an investigation before anything has necessarily occured- the police have their hands tied and can’t really do much with out physical evidence.

Teachers are mandated reporters- however, our school district tells them to report to the district, not to authorities- so that may not have happened yet

EK, I don’t know what’s going on with the family. Not the vaguest idea. I hope things will work out.

Thanks for the update! Keep us posted.

The daughter vanished from school… that’s odd. Seems like an over-reaction, unless she was really acting out in a cry for help and maybe it’s finally being addressed. Is it even possible to graduate a semester early? I don’t think most kids here would be able to meet state requirements without advanced planning… but if you’re in a private school, the rules may be different.

Glad to hear things may be going in the right direction. Yes, it’s strange that the girl is not in school - you have to wonder what’s really going on there. You may never know, but the important thing is that they all just leave you in peace.

Fingers crossed that this is all behind you, ZM.

Happy to hear that this may all be in the past. Thanks for the update.

Thanks for the update; I hope things will now calm down.

Glad to hear this, but I agree with Emeraldkity that CPS should be notified, perhaps not directly by you but by the police or the school. This sounds really strange to me, like some extreme overreacting–lock down?-- on the parents’ parts. I don’t buy that they didn’t know about the last attack either. (I’ve seen one mother make a big show about being shocked and furious that her D egged the school at Halloween, and later my D told me that the whole thing was the mother’s idea in the first place, and that she had given her D $$ to buy the eggs.)
