Well, there has been debate about the “self-made” part. She was well known through the Kardashian empire, so when she “started,” she had a huge advantage over any other young person “beginning” a career.
I’m sure she has worked hard at what she does, but she didn’t exactly start at the bottom.
Forbes’ profile of her at https://www.forbes.com/profile/kylie-jenner/ lists her self-made score as 7 (range 1 to 10).
The Forbes self-made score is described at https://www.forbes.com/sites/afontevecchia/2014/10/02/the-new-forbes-400-self-made-score-from-silver-spooners-to-boostrappers/ . A score of 7 means “Self-made who got a head start from wealthy parents and moneyed background”, which is the lowest of the scores for self-made wealth (8 means from middle or upper-middle class (relatively common among the Forbes list of 400 richest people), 9 means from working class, 10 means started poor with significant obstacles). A score of 6 means “Hired or hands-off investor who didn’t create the business” while scores of 1 to 5 indicate various degrees of inheritance.
I don’t think hard work has been involved at all, and believe it is just someone else selling her name and slapping it on products. It’s a PR & marketing machine driven by others, that’s all. Not saying it isn’t successful, but her hard working? Uh, no.
Her brother has the same background but never made a dime.
@blueskies2day, so pessimistic! After all, she does need to go to photo shoots, let people do her hair, makeup and wardrobe and then let them take pictures. B-) what I find interesting is that she looks NOTHING like her natural self before dozens (hundreds) of injectables and surgeries. I wonder if she realizes her children won’t look like her, they will favor her former self? I find it ironic that she made her fortune in large part from selling a lip kit. Her original self had extremely thin lips. No lip kit made them look like they do now.
Her fortune is based on some random peeing on her sister and their mother publicizing the tape, right? They all owe everything to that monster LOL. It is about time there was a law against reality shows pimping minor children. Kylie seems to have not really attended high school or ever had a college option. That is sad.
Obviously had jaw surgery which reshaped her face. Easy to see comparing photos around 2012, changing an long oval face shape isn’t getting older, it’s surgery. That surgery can also plump lips as they roll/push them when they re position the jaw. To me, Forbes just lost credibility calling her self made (not that I thought they were relevant in much anyway).
Apparently someone buys this stuff, but isn’t it seen as a level below drug store brands? The teens and young women at our high school wouldn’t consider buying their products. So who is dishing out all the dough?
