Out dated pages ---For YEARS

It’s difficult to keep up with the number of pages that are not updated at SBU. When looking at their dance program for example…2006 & 2007 dates for upcommng performances. When looking at many of the institutes, the same thing…pages not updated for several “YEARS”. I’ve even called a few departments about their websites and reported the situation, but still no changes.

Anyone know whats up? Is this a reflection of all these programs lack of attention to detail? Very interested in this school, but this is a red flag. Not really sure what to make of it.

I understand your concern, and sometimes feel some of the same frustrations… the dance program is a bad example, though, as the program technically no longer exists, which is probably why the page hasn’t been updated.

It’s not a lack of attention to detail, just that not every department has Web-savvy faculty or grad students; some departments are better than others, obviously. Good that you’re calling attention to it; if departments realize that it’s important, hopefully they’ll be more likely to devote resources to it.

The dance program technically no longer exists? In some places I see that there is a dance minor, and in other places it’s not mentioned. What does this mean for the listed courses in dance, will they still be offered, for how much longer? Who should I speak with at SBU? What is the the dance space…is this the dance department, or just part of the theater dept?

Thanks!

It’s part of the theater department - so they’d be the ones who would know. I believe there will still be classes offered, but they are not allowing anyone to declare the minor at this point. The person who was running the program left, I believe, and nobody took it over, so it got dropped by the department, unfortunately.
