Out of HYPM: where should I apply EA to?

Preferably I would like to be able to apply early to my instate as well.

Objective:
• SAT I (breakdown): 2290 (740 CR, 800 M, 750 W)
• SAT II: Math II (800), Chemistry (760), US History (740)
• Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.0
• Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 1/~550
• AP/ College Classes: AP World History, AP Comp. Science, AP Chemistry, AP Physcology, AP Calc BC, AP English Lang., AP US History, AP English Lit., AP Government, AP Comp. Government, AP Biology, AP Physics B, AP Physics C, two dual enrolled math classes (Calc 3 &4) —15 total------so far 6 5’s and 1 4.
• Senior Year Course Load: Everything after AP US History
• Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Intel ISEF x2 (4th place grand prize), National Science Olympiad Silver Medalist, State Science Olympiad Gold Medalist x8, US Congressional Award Silver Medal, National Merit Semifinalist (99% sure), AP Scholar with Distinction, Research published in 2 journals.

Subjective:
• Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Model United Nations (Secretary, VP, President and Secretary General), Science Olympiad (Captain), Varsity Math Team (top scorer), Varsity Tennis, and Medical Research (Filed Patent and supported by national pharmaceutical association). All activities since freshman year.
• Job/Work Experience: Research Internship (9 weeks)
• Volunteer/Community service: 200 hrs of volunteering/ job shadowing at local hospital—Got US Congressional Award Silver Medal for those hrs + 300 hrs of other community service)
• Summer Activities: Duke University TIP, LeadAmerica, Accepted to Governor’s School (Medicine), Research

• Ethnicity: South Asian
• Gender: Female
• Income Bracket: 150K-200K

Thanks!

It does not mean just " in USA", if your parents went anywhere in the world you would not be considered 1st generation.

^Yes. I knew that but thank you.

Out of curiosity, did you conduct all your research for ISEF independently or was it through your “Medical Research (Filed Patent and supported by national pharmaceutical association)”?

Also, you could probably get into any of those, but MIT is a non-restrictive EA so you can apply elsewhere. The only thing is that MIT makes an effort to admit the same % of applicants in each admissions type. So if you want to be in an advantageous position by applying to one of these four, MIT is not the place to do it. They’re all wonderful schools, buy I feel that Harvard has the strongest science program out of HYP. You seem to love science, so I’d apply there EA.

Good luck.

Check the whether EA has restrictions on applying to other schools EA. E.g. MIT EA does not restrict other EA, but HYP have various restrictions that you want to check before deciding.

Apply early to the one that’s your first choice. Simple as that. We can’t tell you which your first choice is.

But I’d also ask how much you’ve actually explored these colleges. Are you applying to them just because they’re prestigious? I wonder this specifically because you include Yale among more science-heavy schools.

Yeah I have visited all these schools. I have included Yale because I also want to double major/minor in international relations. Yeah I’m not onyl applying for prestige. These schools have large endowments and therefore amply research opportunities.

Harvard or Yale.

If you’re interested in STEM fields and IR, you should look into Stanford as well, which is top 5 in all of them (US News put Stanford #1 for both IR and poli sci). Stanford also dedicates more $ solely to undergraduate research grants than any other school - between $4-5 million each year. Given that you’re a female interested in the sciences, you’d have a very good shot at getting in (Stanford is constantly trying to increase female enrollment in STEM fields).

Not to make you over-confident, but assuming that you have strong recommendations and write excellent essays, I think you’ll probably get into at least one of HYPSM, and if not one of them, then another super-selective school.

For your interests, the best academic fit would be Harvard or Stanford, though MIT is also decent in IR. Depending on what sciences you’re interested in, Yale and Princeton can also be great (Princeton was also ranked #1 in IR and Yale in the top 10 by US News). IMO academic fit and general fit (in terms of student culture, etc.) should be the guide in deciding which you apply to early.

How can you expect us to make the choice for you? Decide for yourself.

Separate the mailings from each school into individual piles. Set them on fire and see which one burns the longest. Apply there.

^ Win. ****ing pure win.
