As many of you wonderful parents know, I am currently waiting for my EA application to be read by Georgetown University’s Admission Committee. However, there was one thought that ran across my mind…

If a student is the only one applying that particular college/university (from an underperforming, urban school like mine), and is the only one that has applied in a long time, will he or she be at a disadvantage because his or her school doesn’t have a connection with the prospective college/university?

I know that GU divides the app-reads into high schools, and where some will have a load of applications from one particular school, mine will be the only one from my high school… Kinda makes me wonder…

Bear in mind, Georgetown is a Jesuit university, arguably the premier Catholic University in the US. Following their mandate–and prompting from Rome–Georgetown absolutely gives admit preference to Catholic students who attend Catholic high schools–especially Jesuit high schools. As they should.

But my sense is that G town SFS has a broader mandate and sincerely looks for the best leaders --world-wide–which means that your ‘unknown’ school would not count against you. The fact that you are applying from an underperforming urban school will appeal to the adcom, I think.

But the competition is tough tough tough, Tlaktan–as bad as HYP.

Looking forward to your reviews of other visits…
