Out of pocket cost

I am a parent of a child that wants to attend Tuskegee University. I am a retired army veteran living in SC and i am also 100% disabled. I know my daughter will receive the chapter 35 VA benefit and will qualify for a full Pell grant. My question is, I’m getting conflicting information as to whether these two forms of financial aide will be enough to cover all her school cost and I’m hoping someone that reads this can give me a inside or a solid answer as to whether I/she will need to take out loans to attend this school?I have called the school and they are the ones giving me the conflicting information. I hope someone can give me some answers and some help…

Thanks,
Confused Parent

What is the $ amount she will receive from the VA?

First of all, thank you for serving our country. :)

Is your daughter a junior or senior in HS? If she’s a senior, has she applied anywhere else?

How much is the chapter 35 VA benefit?

Pell Grant will be about $5350 if she gets the full amount. :)

Tuskegee U has a cost of attendance of about $28,000 per year (tuition, room, board, books, etc). Is that what you’ve found?

Did Tuskegee offer her any merit scholarships?

Is this the Chapter 35 benefit’s info? (scroll down)

here’s the link on that page… [Chapter 35 Rates October 1, 2009 - U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs](http://www.gibill.va.gov/GI_BILL_INFO/rates/CH35/ch35rates100109.htm)

Institutional Training
Training Time
Monthly rate

Full time Monthly rate…
$925.00

So, your daughter will get $925 per month while she’s in school. Is that only for the school-year months (Aug - May) or what?

So, if she gets 10 months of Chapter 35, she’ll get $9,250

plus her Pell…$5,350

total …$14,600

Hopefully, some of these ladies like Swimcatsmom or Kelsmom will see this and say what else your D will qualify for.
