Out Of State CC Transfer to UCB

I’m a Washington State Community College Student (1st year), interested in Berkeley L&S.

My preferred major would be Media Studies, but I’m aware that L&S admits applicants to the school and not the major. So, would I be better off applying for my major or undecided?

I’ve read about how the UC’s in general offer preference to California CC students, and the IGETC curriculum. I’ll be done with my major prereqs by the time I apply, and I’m trying my best to arrange a course pattern that fits the IGETC equivalent in WA. (Any advice on out of state attempts to fulfill IGETC requirements is welcome) If I could, I would just move down to CA and enroll in CC there, but that isn’t possible with my current situation. However, I could be able to transfer for my last quarter or two down to an in state CC. Would that make any difference or help my chances of admission?

First question: money.
Will you be able to afford UCB at $60K per year?

Which is why I’m going the CC route first. That’s also before financial aid, possible scholarships, etc., I looked into the possibility of in state tuition and there just isn’t an option there for me. I’m determined to apply to out of state schools anyway.

This thread is about concern of just getting accepted.
