Out of state colleges..

I’m letting go of the girl that i love because we live in different states and she can’t come to me because she has a heart problem and i told her i can’t come to her because i cant afford to go to college out of state. We’ve been talking for over two years so if i can’t come to her this summer then it’s the last straw for us.

I live in kansas and she lives in texas. We were going to move to corpus christi together, i dont know what community colleges are around there but can anyone help or give me reason to believe i could get financial aid and student loans at a texas community college if im not a texas resident? How long do you have to live in texas to declare residency?

I love this girl but if i can’t get financial aid in texas to help get me through college then i can’t be with her :frowning: so if anyone could give me insight on how i could get financial aid in texas i’d appreciate it.

Finish college where you can afford the costs. If the romance is meant to be, it will still happen.

Doesnt really address my question :/

There are community colleges in the Corpus Christi area. How strict they are for getting in state rates, I don’t know. Look up the costs for Delmar College there, and see what the cost is. What is your EFC? Would you be able to have someone there take care of your living expenses if PELL can cover your tuition? If you have a place to live, it is possible to find a job there, try to get settled and start your college bit by bit. What are your plans for college in Kansas? Do you have any parental support for school in Kansas, and if you should move to Texas? All of those things are factors.

Have you met this girl in person yet, or is this an online romance?

Even if you move to Texas, if you are under 24 years of age, you will still need to include your parents’ financial information on your FAFSA. Will they pay for you to attend college in Texas? If not, how will you pay these bills.

Will they pay for college in texas…uhm thats what financial aid is for right

Uhm, no, the parents are first in line to pay for college.
Back up and post specifics so posters can give helpful answers. Are you currently a student? What year? How are current expenses being paid.

Wrong! Financial aid is NOT to pay for OOS costs. At the very vast majority of colleges, including community colleges, if you are from out of state your costs are about double that of instate. In addition, most public universities provide aid to their IN state residents PRIMARILY. OOS residents are seen as a revenue stream, and don’t get significant need based aid in most cases.

And anyway, the ONLY guaranteed aid you will receive is a $5500 Direct Loan if your parents and you complete the FAFSA.

If you are very low income, you would get the Pell grant. But I’ll put this out…if you are very low income, you likely cannot afford the costs of an OOS public university on Texas.

And lastly, the public universities in Texas do NO guarantee to meet your financial need.

If you don’t have a way to pay for college in Texas above the $5500 Direct Loan, you will not be able to attend.

As noted above, PARENTS are the first in line to pay for college.
