Out of state?

Hi, I’m an Asian American citizen who moved to China for like, 6 years, after living in CA for 11. I guess that would make me OOS then? I also heard that OOS has lower chances for admission, right? How bad is that, because my SAT and GPA’s are pretty mediocre so I guess my chance is just about zero? My SAT is 2160 or something and I want to apply for Chemical Biology. I guess I’m dead then? Plus being Asian is pretty bad I heard.

UCs don’t practice affirmative action. There are plans to increase the number of OOS students. You might want to apply anyway.

i don’t know how much being Asian will affect your chances but being OOS does have a disadvantage.

darn…I guess I should settle for something less reach then haha… btw, is it true that the college fee is lowered to in state after one year of attending at a UC, or do you need a job or parent there to get a reduction in the price?

It’s not true that after one year of attending a UC the college fee is lowered. Establishing residency is difficult. Your situation is interesting, since you are a US citizen. You should look into whether you are considered a California resident, since that is the last place you lived in the US.

I don’t know how it works, but you should research this carefully and contact the university of california directly.
