We need to replace some oversized outdoor chair and love seat cushions. I’ve been up and down the interwebs and can come close but no cigar. We need two U-shaped cushions 24" wide by 26" deep by 5" high, and one love seat cushion 48" wide by 27" deep by 5" high. I’ve found places that can custom make them starting well above $100 each just for the seat cushions. I’m trying to find some more reasonably priced but maybe that’s unrealistic? DH is not buying my argument that we should just replace the furniture (black wicker, came with the house) ;).
We can’t do slipcovers because I suspect the insides would stick to the covers if we tried removing them. Been to web site of Overstock, Wayfair, Lowes, Home Depot, Amazon, Pier 1, Bed Bath, Cost Plus, and much much more.
Do you know the brand of the furniture?
I tried to find replacements for some outdoor furniture I have and I could not find anything that would fit. I emailed the manufacturer and they referred me to a dealer that carries the brand. Unfortunately to replace mine will be expensive since the model is discontinued and they would have to custom make them from the old pattern. Haven’t yet decided what to do.
Good luck
It came with the house - we got all the outdoor furniture because the appraisal came in slightly low. Also because the owners were moving to a condo but still. No idea how long they’d had it or where it came from. I don’t think there are any tags or marks but will double check tomorrow, good thought, thanks!
We needed cushions for our outdoor furniture… let’s say $100 a pop is not a bad price for custom in the exact color you need. That said, I would use the unaffordable cushions as an excuse to get rid of wicker furniture! Get powder-coated aluminum stuff that lasts. We bought ours from Summer House (I wonder if there is one in your neck of the woods).
If it helps, I was pricing cushions at Target the other day and they were about $35 to $40 for generic chair cushions (the kind that sit around a table). If you like the wicker, I would get custom cushions. If you don’t like the wicker, well, let’s just say that it might not be a total shame if something were to “happen” to it.
I also like At Home - they do have the best selection of cushions.
I was able to find cushions and awning replacements for a swing set. I did know it was from Costco but didn’t have the model number. Maybe you can find something here…
Do you want to get rid of the cushions entirely, or just change the color/fabric? You might ask around (or post on any neighborhood forums), for someone willing to re-cover? We have a lot of handy moms in our neighborhood who appreciate the side jobs. (sorry if that is sexist, but yes, it is primarily moms). You don’t necessarily have to remove the outer cushion since you’re concerned it might stick, although that would make a cleaner job. Try one and see?
I would think a custom person who would be willing to make those large sized cushions would charge at least $110-$120 including the insert, particularly using Sunbrella fabric. Personally, I would not use anything but Sunbrella fabric. A good quality ready made IF you could even find it, using good quality fabric, in that large size, shape and thickness, would not be a whole lot less than going custom. Maybe negotiate a little with your existing custom cushion maker?
No tags on the existing cushions or furniture, so still no idea where they came from. I really do want to replace the entire seat cushions; they’re not only grungy but also squished. We just need a neutral color; I bought new back cushions from Overstock a couple of years ago in a lovely design. So cream, beige, light grey, etc.
Try Ballard Designs website. They have a huge variety that you can price out and see if it’s worth it.
I found my solid seat cushions for my back patio furniture at Target because they had a large stock of them last summer.
Also, swing by Home Goods. They have a bunch in stock. And… I might add, some gorgeous patio furniture sets!
PS, getting rid of my front patio wicker and aluminum set at my garage sale because the legs are rusting all over my patio and I’ve fallen in love with a new set at Home Goods. Knowing my luck, it will be sold before I can get back there
Both Ballard and Target are a couple of inches short in both dimensions unfortunately. We only need to replace the seats; otherwise the seat and back sets might fit.
Our current furniture is very comfortable for lounging with the curved backs and wide arms.
It’s great that you can start taking care of yourself!
Work on your H some more for new furniture. Tell him the costs of replacing the cushions with quality, durable ones and the costs of comfortable replacement furniture. It sounds like you have already done your due diligence in this matter and have a good case for a fresh start with the outdoor stuff. I hate to sew but have done it (curtains, bench cushion) when I couldn’t easily find what I wanted- time, effort, costs may not be worth it for you.
I was going to try for the new furniture but today we had an attic specialist in because the exterminators can’t seem to get rid of the rats. Turns out we need to totally clean out the attic and rat proof and repair and re-insulate - the rats were really partying up there this winter - and close the hole to the outside that he found. We saw the pictures - eek. Between that cost and the taxes next month - no new furniture right now.
I did find a company online that could make all the seat cushions we need for $420. Four seat and back sets would be $537 at Ballard (two club chairs and a loveseat).
But I think we will wait for summer. There are some nice reasonably priced sets at the outlet place where we got our hammock stand.
