Riding bikes behind the mosquito truck in its fog was a regular pastime! I cringe now but don’t appear to have suffered any ill effects. I obviously didn’t absorb much because bugs still love me. I welcome anything that saves me from dousing in DEET or swelling from bites.

From Target, insulated tote bag.

My father was a chemist, so we were the ONLY kids in the neighborhood that were required to come inside when the mosquito truck showed up. Mom would run around closing all the windows. We’d watch from inside, all the other kids having a blast.

In retrospect, thanks Dad!

Saw this being recommended for those looking for something to keep flies away outside.

Lots of AZ restaurants use those on their patios. They work OK but are a bit annoying to have on the table. Better than bugs, though.

We just saw this last week when we were at a wine tasting. Didn’t see any flies - not sure if there really weren’t any or this device did the trick! As @ChoatieMom says, a bit annoying to have on the table.

Catching up here, I realize that I don’t miss the mosquitos from NY childhood (especially bad at our yard - lovely, but near a creek). Colorado is drier, which of course is not always a good thing… particularly for gardeners.

These fly windmills are very effective! We first saw them at a couple of restaurants in HI and were impressed. Didn’t take much space on the table, and the flies were completely gone.

We have a large bug zapper. It’s well away from the house, where there is a boggy area. We can hear the bugs being zapped, but it’s not a distraction at all. It’s very effective at drawing insects away from the house and patio.

We get good use from our volleyball/badminton set. We got a good quality one and it is fun to use it barefoot in the summer. It came with a quality volleyball, raquets, shuttlecocks, tethers, pegs, as well as boundary line that can be pegged down. People of all ages enjoy using it.

My new experiment. We inherited 3, technically 4 birdbaths at our house. And we have tons of birds. The je water though gets stagnant just sitting in the birdbath.

This is a solar fountain. Looks cute, sounds nice, birds can still perch on the bath and the water circulates better. Will need to refill more often but it’s a nice little feature for like $16. Have only had it a day though and it def works best in a sunny spot

I ordered two portable thermacells for our upcoming trip to do some rockhounding in Michigan on the shores of the Great Lakes. You clip them to a belt or backpack.

I wouldn’t have made the purchase (just relied on DEET) except we invited our daughter who hates bugs and gets skeeter syndrome from bites. I don’t want her to be miserable!
