Outright rejection for me?

Hi all. I’m an int’l applicant from Asia (not india sub-continent/china/korea though). WUSTL is my first choice. However, it is a top-tier school so I’m very worried about the D grade I had in my junior year. My school is really strict and there is rampant grade deflation for that particular subject. Out of the class only 0.5% obtained a A.

I hope my other stats are able to compensate that disgusting result though so that at least the adcom will still read through my application package, at the very least. Here comes the question: what are some of the killer stats I need to avoid the outright rejection? Thx very much.

I think the D grade could hurt you more or less depending on what subject it is. You may want to include information in the Additional Information section as to why you received such a low grade. If there is a legitimate reason, and the adcoms see you owning up to it, then it will show that you are taking responsibility and acknowledging the blip in your record.

I think you will want to write a really good essay; that will certainly raise your chances

Depending on the subject, a good SAT II or AP score in that subject might help.
