Hey! Committed to either UCLA or Berkeley
Was wondering if you go to either, will you still be in touch or do you still do keep in touch with those from the opposing school (e.g. if you attend, are you still friends with people who go to Berkeley, or reverse)
Of course. Why wouldn’t you?
Physical distance is not so kind between campuses, so it’s a bit hard, at least on paper, to connect with other friends from the opposing UC
You can always make an effort to do so, but my question now I guess is it hard to make that effort? Social media is a wondrous thing, but I like to see and talk to my friends in person sometimes…
It’s not reasonable to say I’m going to talk or see them every week or month, but every couple or so would be nice
I went to a UC and I’m still friends with students at a handful of other UCs (yes, including UC Berkeley and UCLA, among others). And I’m still friends with people who went to school all over the country. And I’m still friends with people from college even though we no longer live near each other. You don’t have to live physically close to someone to still be friends. We’ll text, chat online, webcam, talk on the phone, etc. There are a million ways to talk to people who don’t live near you. And we still visit whenever we get a chance.
Your world is very small when you’re in high school, but don’t automatically feel like you have to lose friends because you no longer live close together. My group of friends have become much more geographically far flung than they were in high school but that doesn’t mean they aren’t less of a friend.
I went from SoCal to Berkeley, none of my closest friends went with me, and I’m still friends with all of them. I see them when I go home for breaks, and we Skype and chat on Facebook. I made new close friends at Berkeley, but they are additions, not replacements! My less-close friendships did sort of fade, but my close friends stayed close, even though it’s sad that we can’t hang out as often.
