Outside of School Class' Effect on GPA

I have a question about GPA’s. I’m a student from California and I have taken 4 semester/20 credits of classes outside of school (2 semesters/10 credits of Chinese Lvl 4 and 2 semesters/10 credits Graphic Design II) at a community college and got A’s for all the semesters. These classes were preapproved by my high school for high school credit for Foreign Language and Visual/Performing Arts, respectively, and are on my high school transcript. And they are apparently academic classes because they are factored into my school’s academic GPA.

Would these classes count on my GPA for UC’s or private schools? Because if they do, they would lower my weighted GPA because they aren’t weighted classes.

If so, wouldn’t a student that took 7 AP classes at my school (the max number of classes possible a semester) and got A’s in all of them have a higher weighted GPA than a person that took let’s say Graphic Design I (after school) in addition to the same 7 AP classes and got A’s in all of them. So basically the latter person is being punished for taking an extra class and getting an A in it? I don’t see how this makes sense.

there’s a new eligibility requirements for UC starting fall 2012. It depends on when do you plan to attend UC. Your outside advanced classes could possibly be counted. Check out the UC Honor approval list. Also, according to its website, the comprehensive review should take your extra capabilities into account. I wouldn’t feel bad or unfair about it.
