Outside Recs

What format do you use for recommendations from outside influences?
should i do on the teacher/counseler evaluation form or should they just write a letter or something?

There is no required format. You can use copies of the teacher/counselor eval form provided in the JHU application or common application, or you can just have the recommender write a letter. Make sure though that any letter includes the applicant’s name, high school, and birth date so it can be matched to other application materials.

Good luck.

Uh-oh…
My outside rec was from a JHU professor…but he emailed me saying he EMAILED the letter of rec to the admissions office. He asked for my social security # but that’s it, no hs, no dob, etc. Worried, I tried emailing my region admissions rep but prly due the the large number of emails she is getting, I have not received a response in over 2 weeks and I am beginning to get worried…Is there a way to check if the professor’s rec was received and/or in my folder yet? Thanks!!

To check receipt of application materials you need to contact the Office of Admissions at 410-516-8171. However, don’t do it now. It takes the Operations staff a number of weeks to fully process all the materials sent in by applicants, so they request some time and patience for application folders to become complete.

ED applicants should check after Thanksgiving to make sure all materials have been received and processed correctly. RD applicants should wait until the end of January.

Give them some time…then you can make sure your materials were received correctly.

so if they are missing a part of the application, maybe not a main part but a small extra supplemental portion, would it be too late to send it in after thanksgiving?

For ED applicants, it is recommended that everything be sent in before the Nov. 15th deadline. Non-required or supplemental parts to the application will be received after the deadline but should be in no later than the end of November.

For RD applicants, it is recommended everything be in before Jan. 1st, but additional information will be received and processed throughout January.

Your applications remain “open” throughout the file review process, but it is smart to try to get everything in before the deadlines. Just makes it easier on the Operations staff who need to process 12,000+ applications where each application has on average 15 pages of material. Not an easy job…
