Do outside scholarships get reported to the IRS and your attending university if the check is given directly to the recipient?
There is no automatic “yes” or “no” answer to this question, so the real answer is: it depends.
It’s up to the donor. If they do not ask you for your SSN, it’s unlikely they are reported to either the IRS or the school. YOU still have the obligation to report them. Some scholarship donors issue W2 or 1099 directly to the student.
