Ovens!

Finally ordered an oven tonight. Went shopping a few days ago and found out that the Thermador ovens have a dehydrate cycle. When I get flooded with tomatoes, that could be quite useful! The higher end model also has knobs - this is an incredible rarity in wall ovens and the Luddite in me loves it.

The problem is the higher end model is $4000 and the lower end one is $3100 or $3200 (no knobs). Thermador has a promotion where if you buy a range or an oven + cooktop you get a free dishwasher worth about $1300. Tempting, but we would have to store the extra pieces for now and by the time they were installed they’d be past the manufacturer’s warranty. Can’t swing the money that easily now either.

Then I went to a party last night and the people there had just gotten a new double oven by Electrolux. More affordable and it also has a dehydrate cycle. I started looking for prices online and the lower end version, the IQ, has an MSRP of $2200 and the higher end version, the wave, has an MSRP of $2549. For some odd reason, Best Buy online only sells the wave version and they had it listed as on sale for $1799!

I printed out the web page and I’m glad I did because our salesman said they would match any price and the price in his computer was higher than the best buy online price. He could have ordered us the IQ version but it would have been more than the wave so we got the wave. It has two convection fans so it should be interesting. By Saturday I’ll be baking again!

@greenwitch, I’m eager to hear how you like it.

Wow, a dehydrate cycle - that’s awesome! Do you have a link?

@walkinghome, on either Electrolux or Thermador’s web site you can find out all the oven cycles but they don’t say much about each one. Here is a link to the complete owner’s manual for the Electrolux wave:

Page 8 has a small blurb about each oven function, page 27 has more about dehydrate. I can’t figure out how to copy and paste from a PDF! Basically, the convection fans help to dehydrate but I don’t know how it differs from regular convection.
