I remember reading somewhere that students can register for, say, Calc II and III, attend both and then drop one. Can we do that and how common is it/is it recommended?

you can register for whatever you want as long as none of the classes overlap and you don’t exceed the credit limit. To do either of those you need special permission.

speaking of “over-registering,” how is it possible to register for classes that are already full? (say, courses that list 82/80 students as registered). i know that there are sporadic openings all throughout orientation week, but i’m just concerned i won’t get into a section of a course i’d like to take

the professor can sign a sheet to add you to the course if its full. Don’t hold your breath about getting into a course that is already full. Even if there are openings they’ll most likely be snapped up by upperclassmen and its not unheard of for a professor in an extremely popular course to drop the freshman from the course in favor of upperclassmen since the freshman will have a chance to take it later.

I registered for 2 sections of chemistry, and could tell after one class which one was going to be better.

Yeah, I wish I did that.

mikenthemaddog66, which one did you ultimately choose?
