How frowned upon is this? The supplemental directly asks about a topic that I talked about in my commonapp essay
Each element of the application is a chance to show breadth and depth.
I would recommend touching on the common app item lightly if it is the main/obvious example but then expanding to other examples or experiences that flesh out the lesson/point.
I say this not because redundancy is aways “frowned upon” but more because you would otherwise miss the opportunity to communicate another facet of your passions/journey/individuality.
It will depend - on whether both are actually read.
I agree with Wgolds - the main thing is, if you do this and you shouldn’t, make sure you are coming from a different overall angle.
Do you have another essay from another school - perhaps a supplemental? For this college, perhaps you can sub that in as a Comm App essay.
I believe my daughter did that - then you don’t have that repetition.
