Technically, yes. I had to go the school VP to get to take more credits than are usually allowed, but here’s what I’ve got lined up. Do yall think I have room to throw in community service at the YMCA on Saturdays and possibly Sundays.

Courses: all honors
English II
Statistics
Physics I
Accounting II
Economics II

ECs:
VP Student Govt.
VP Honors Club (don’t think we do much though)
Press Reporter Business Club
Member top college choir (so class once a week and a couple performances)

I’ve held a 4.0, and while I want to beef my application up, as well as do things that I enjoy (like music), academics ALWAYS come first in my mind. So should I commit to community service too? I’d like to get 100+ hours before application time, which gives me about 7 months for most schools that I’m applying to.

What is your breaking point?

I was able to stay sane with about the same amount of units and extracurriculars (though your courses are harder). My social life was pretty nil that semester as well.

If you’re will to sacrifice a lot of recreational time, I say you go through with it…

Best wishes :)

lol yes i’m at a CC everyone from my high school (practically) is gone, so I have no friends around here anymore. Lol. Why else would I be on CC so much. I patiently await my new life at _______ university. So yeah, I guess I’ll do it then. Thanks.

lmao-brand-seriously- you’ve made like 5 threads on this same topic.

DUDE! i’ve never made a topic about overloading. lol

this is a genuine question to see if others in similar situations have had luck keeping their grades up…

^ Oh yeah, I was able to maintain the 4.0 for that sem…though my classes were a lot easier than yours.

just wondering, how many hours of community service did you get? i may follow suit and pace myself accordingly.

Over that semester, I was required to complete twenty-four hours as part of my training as a English tutor.

Before that, I had like random volunteering at this place that made food for people suffering from AIDS for about forty hours.

Where are you trying to transfer to Brand?

heh…let’s see, applying to:

brown
colorado college
columbia
cornell (CAS Econ)
emory (goizueta)
georgetown (mcdonough)
northwestern
chicago
ut - austin (mccombs)
nyu (stern)
swarthmore
wesleyan
university of british columbia

Yay, I salute you…No HYPS!

Best wishes with those universities :)

lol thanks when i first began this process, i was unfortunately influenced by HYPS and had all (except Princeton obviously) on my list, with 7 of the ivies in all! Research is good and definitely recommended for people that want to make the right decisions.

As the smiley face indicates, Chicago has stolen my heart. Thanks for the help Cardinal.

^ ooooh UChicago…Apply early transfer decision. You’ll get your decision earlier. I woulda done it because I always wanted to apply EA/ED to something (there is something inherently nerdishly cool about it). ha.

Go life of mind!

I am just taking statistics now and the class is killing me (not really :)).
but to maintain a 4.0, english 2, econ 2, and statiscs w/ maybe accounting seems more doable. frankly with your ec schedule i’d take 3 of those classes (engl, econ or accounting, w/ statistics or physics) and call it a semester.
good luck though!

thanks buerre i would but i have to have my prereqs done before spring to get the grades done…i’ll have a really easy spring semester though so maybe i should say i’ve got so many cc hours and do most of them in the spring? you can do that right?

Brand,

Make sure some of the courses such as accounting will even transfer to the business programs you mentioned. I know at Michigan (Ross), for example, they will not accept accounting from any community college.

thx for the advice lol luckily i’ve been doing that

ross is one example of several colleges that I looked into and immediately dropped from my list as soon as I realized that the course would not transfer. As for the business schools listed, I’ve checked and all will be fine. But thanks for the heads up. I was interested in Stanford at first (ha! not gonna happen) but scratched it off early because I came across something that said they didn’t accept courses from CCs. I guess the only ones that they do accept them from are those CCs nearby that are known for getting a student in every year or so.

I’m not so sure the community service is that important.
