Hi,

I just found that my EFC is 33k. I was looking at various big-name scholarships that give out large amounts of money. e.g. GE-Reagan Foundation, Lowe’s, Best-Buy’s, etc. I am wondering if I should even apply to them anymore. I feel like it would be pointless because I am overqualified. Any thoughts?

Any help would be much appreciated.

EDIT: ‘overqualified’ as in not in dire need of financial aid…

I’m not familiar with these scholarships. Do these scholarships ask for financial information as a part of their application? If they do, I would agree that it may not be worth it unless you have some type of compelling reason to need the money, but if they are purely merit-based, you should definitely go for it.

As mentioned above, the merit-based scholarships are the ones to go for you. Because, obviously if it’s financial aid-based scholarships, you wont qualify for most (as you mentioned, not in dire need of aid).

Try asking the nearest school or the one you wish to go to about merit-based scholarships and see which ones you qualify for. Don’t miss any due dates.
