Overrated/Underrated

what do u ppl think about princeton
overrated??

underrated in public opinion if anything. keep in mind that USNWR rates the undergraduate part of each institution separately from the grad schools. schools such as yale and harvard get boosts from their law and business schools, in the court of public opinion.

i think princeton is underrated rather than overrated, (thats like the public perception).

bball87, what you said and what i said were the same thing, but you still seemed to disagree with me?

ives way over rated
pomona and caltech underrated

“what do u ppl think about princeton
overrated??”

I personally don’t think Princeton is overrated. However, many other people may.

I do not see how Princeton can be consdered “underrated”. Everybody and his sister, mother, father and black goat ranks Princeton among the top 4 or 5 universities in the nation. What should we do? Give it s sub-zero ranking?! LOL

ahahhahahaha

“Everybody and his sister, mother, father and black goat ranks Princeton among the top 4 or 5 universities in the nation.”

LOL

When there weren’t rankings like back in the 70s, what did ppl think about college/universities. I mean how did they know the difference between a Clark University and a Georgetown?

They actually went to a school because they felt it would serve their academic and personal needs instead of just worrying about its ranking.

Nah, that’s crazy talk.

Alexandre, rankings really, truly aren’t everything. Rice produces top-notch engineers that are also well-rounded. I went to Rice as an undergrad and I’m at University of Illinois (very comparable to University of Michigan in undergraduate engineering strength) for graduate school, and while a large number of University of Illinois undergraduate engineers get into the graduate program at University of Illinois, they don’t get into the other top programs that they apply to, while Rice students get in, and get funding, to nearly every place they apply. I qualified my statement by giving my criteria, and it’s criteria that I have firsthand experience in, as opposed to a ranking that merely collects a large number of related statistics and compares them all. I personally don’t think it’s a good idea to rely on a numerical algorithm to weigh two schools, and I really think that Rice produces higher quality undergraduate-trained engineers than University of Michigan. Just one gal’s opinion.

I would have to agree with the previous opinions in that Michigan, if anything, is overrated. And it is by no means a top 10 school. For once, (and I can not believe I am saying this), I agree with Ivy_Grad in his logic of the top 10/20 universities.

UMich is great, just not spectacular… and it’s “public” status firmly and indefinitely keeps it below the top 10.

I think a UVA degree would take people further than UM(except for engineering).

“I think a UVA degree would take people further than UM(except for engineering).”

i dont know about that, i think they’re the same. (i’m a cavalier)

I think Michigan is better than UVA, stronger in more departments, more prestige, etc…

Don’t shoot me you cavaliers, UVA is great too.

Consider yourself shot. LOL

I think Umich is SLIGHTLY more prestigious than Uva, but it is still not a top 10 university IMO.

UVA is ivy-caliber for admissions, though.

No its not

I’m not so sure I’d call it “Ivy-caliber” but IF your coming from out of state, it’s extremely difficult to get into UVA (although I think they may have started taken more out-of-staters these past few years). I think that’s the way it is with the majority of state schools though.

I belive, with the exception of UM engineering, UVA and UMich are basically of the same caliber. Both are fantastic schools, it just depends on the kind of enviroment your looking for. I think both are a bit underrated (at least on this message board) whereas most ratings get them right.
