Overrated/Underrated

<a href=“NRC Rankings”>NRC Rankings;

(Average of non-zero scores, the other columns aren’t really that valuable)

First off, those are not US News rankings. Secondly, how do they formulate the scores? I couldn’t find that on the list.

By phd papers published and citations in other rocks, right?

…and the Top 5:

Stanford, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Texas …

And that wraps up the NCAA football ranking, next up at the top of the hour SportsCenter…

Top grad schools using usnews

Rice > Michigan…

How is Rice a better rounded university than Michigan?

It just is…it just is.

LOL, I know I have no proof right now, but you better be sure that I will get some!

I always thought U of Michigan was a major research institution that has established itself as a player in engineering, the sciences, and political science. Did I miss something? I know its a public university, but I don’t think it should detract from its credibility. I’m not too familiar with Rice though. What exactly is their definite area of specialty?

Greatness.

LOL in all seriousness, Rice is good for the sciences and music.

georgetown is EGREGIOUSLY underrated by usnews. (mcdonough at 28? HA)

the university of pennsylvania is overrated by just a couple slots (over stanford and MIT?)

Michigan > Rice

"georgetown is EGREGIOUSLY underrated by usnews. (mcdonough at 28? HA)

the university of pennsylvania is overrated by just a couple slots (over stanford and MIT?)"

mcDonough itself can’t really help the whole university. mcDonough is not THAT good anyway, Ross(michigan) beats the $hit out of it, but, still, Michigan is ranked #22.

Also, I can use your argument to defend Upenn. Wharton??? only #4? Business school is not everything. Georgetown’s peer accessment score apparently sucks.

on cc:
Overrated: THE UC’s(especially UCB and UCLA), the Ivy league(except hyp)

on usnwr:
Way overrated: Penn, Duke
overrated: Umich, Brown

underrated: GEORGETOWN, the top publics(excluding Umich), Boston College, and Cornell
slightly underrated: MIT

NOTE: Don’t get me wrong, Umich is a great school, i just feel that 22 is a little too high.

underrated: Georgetown, Stanford
Overrated: WASHU (big time!), Penn (although not by much)

One could make a very good argument that Stanford deserves to be #2 behind the big H. I would probably agree with it.

My view is in tiers:

 1. HYPSM and maybe Caltech
 2. Penn, Duke, Columbia
 3. JHU, Northwestern, UChicago, Cornell

SM and Cal are underrated slightly, Duke and Penn are overrated slightly, and the rest seem about right, with Cornell maybe slightly underrated

overrated slightly, how about by at least 5-6 spots. Duke and Penn are not top 5 universities, and anyone who thinks that is purely ignorant. Penn and Duke, I think are inded top 10 schools, top 5 is pushing it.

Barrons, thanks for posting that link. Someone I know told me about it, and told me I should look at that. However, I forgot to do it.

Overrated: wakeforest, USC, emory, vanderbilt
Underrated: Tufts (I’m allowed my alma mater bias!), BU, GWU, UCSD

My list revised.

Underrated: Duke University. I just feel that it should be number 1. It is the clearly the best institution ever created. You know, maybe it should have a negative number to express just how high it is.
