Overseas IR programs vs. U.S. programs

I’m an American who plans to continue my current career path in international development (6 years with USAID) and looking at IR/Int’l Dev programs in the U.S. and in Europe.

If I don’t get into the top programs (SAIS, HKS, WWS, etc), would I take a “credibility” hit if I go overseas to a school like Brussels School for International Studies, etc rather than going to a mid-level school in the U.S.? Is it that much more important to go to a U.S. school??

Thanks!

^ depends. BSIS is not that reputable is it? It would be decent if you wanted to work in the EU but in the US? Why dont u try other schools like LSE or if you speak French Sciences Po or HEI? YIes you would take a bit of credibility hit but its significantly reduced the better the school. These schools are expensive though so maybe you have your own reasons for avoiding them. Also you should be aware that some schools in the EU would be focused more on teaching IR from an EU perspective as opposed to one based on American foreign policy.

Like do you have any specific interests?
