Hello so I owe money for my meal plan and was wondering if I was to get a sports scholarship or any scholarship could that be used to pay back what I owe if its at the same school?
You owe money for THIS academic year? If so…scholarships for upcoming years likely can NOT be used to pay your school debt.
And also, you would have to look at the provisions for your scholarships. Some are clearly for tuition only.
And lastly…any aid in excess of qualified educational expenses is considered taxable to the student…and meal costs are NOT qualified educational expenses.
No NCAA scholarship can be used to pay past costs. A probably you will have is that your financial aid will be ‘frozen’ until your balance is paid. Some schools will let you have a payment plan for small amounts, like $400, but your meal plan probably cost more than that.
