Owls or Hawks?

Driving 88 from Albany towards Binghamton, then over to Ithaca - what are those big birds in the trees? I tried to get a picture, but couldn’t get a good shot. Does anyone know if they are owls or hawks, and what kind? H and I have a bet so I’m hoping I can get some info here.

Most likely hawks…vultures if they were circling or were giant but didn’t look like hawks…almost sure they weren’t owls. There are a whole lot of vultures and a good amount of haws in upstate ny from what I’ve seen.

My guess would be red-tailed hawks… why don’t you e-mail Cornell’s Lab of Ornithology and ask them? Let us know if you find out!!

There are lots of turkeys in rural CNY, but they’re too big for trees (and I don’t think they can fly anyway)- I’d guess hawks.

hahaha turkeys…
