so, my cousin have parents who own this italian restaurant in a rural area.

he is putting down “restaurant owners” for his parents job.

he lives in a rural area.

now, do colleges think he will be a rich boy because he owns a restaurant? even though he owns it in a rural area?

or does owning any sort of restaurant in a rural area make you seem like ur parents are barely struggling to make ends meet?

what do u think?

does parents owning a restaurant look bad / good to colleges?

what about in ur financial aid? does owning a restaurant make it bad / good?

I don’t think it’ll make a lot of difference–the ways to tell if a kid is rich is more linked to the kinds of opportunities and experiences they’ve had (a very expensive summer program or something). Zip codes also tell a lot.

His parents will report their earnings for financial aid purposes, which is a separate issue. If they’re struggling and need financial aid, their income level will show it.

You have to remember that most colleges have a need-blind applications process, so whatever financial state your friend is in won’t affect their decision.

There will be plenty more to evaluate his candidacy for colleges on than whether or not he (truthfully I might add) puts that his parents own an Italian restaurant.
