Oxford of Emory vs TCNJ

To tell you the truth, prestige did play role, but so did size. The only reason I was interested in Emory was because of Oxford. I wanted that small LAC enviroment, because I feel the most comfortable in it. Emory students are obviously intellegent, but they were also a bit haughty and arrogant. At TCNJ, once you find your niche you’re good, but my only quib about it is what I mentioned earlier. To much like high school. That and they don’t have an accerlated comp sci program for a bs/ms.

Now another issued arised with TCNJ, budget cuts. As everyone know Corzine’s budget cuts are affecting colleges drastically. I was talking to a friend, who is a sophomore in Rutgers Pharm. She told me that the budget cuts totally screwed over thier program, her scholarship was cut, the Outstanding Students Recruit Program which is used all throughout NJ, and her entire curriculum is messed up. Rutgers ended up with massive lay offs and course shortages, now she has to take mandatory summer courses each year to complete the program. So I am real apprehensive now about staying instate.

Insane:

Our DS was accepted at both TCNJ and Rutgers Pharm, with merit scholarships. We were told by the President of TCNJ, both in person and in writing, that the scholarship is guaranteed for all 4 years. In speaking with Rutgers Admissions at the Accepted Student Open House, they too said the scholarship was guaranteed. To date DS has not received a letter, but we did not ask if that would be coming.

Both schools openly acknowledged that while all students enrolled in the Fall are going to get their scholarships for all 4 years, they do not know if things will change for the subsequent classes. That, I am sure, will depend on the final budget. Remember, at this point Corzine’s budget is simply a recommendation. It is not finalized until July.

However, you can bet I will be calling RU Pharm in the morning to get the scoop. Our DS can still go elsewhere, so we must have the facts prior to the 5/1 deadline. I will be asking about a formal letter regarding the $$$, as well as regarding the cuts in classes. As the PharmD program is rather intense, the thought of summer classes puts me off, even though I am the parent and not even doing the work!
