A student that worked summers as a Maryland Oysterman or, say, a Massachusetts Lobsterman, would that be considered interesting or a “breathe of fresh air” to admission officers?
Maybe. Depends on how it is presented like anything else.
Might be essay fodder
It’s unique and perhaps memorable – but should anyone say it’s more valuable than picking apples or making milkshakes and banana splits or bussing tables? I don’t think so.
I think it’s cool and could be the frame for a great essay.
Thanks for the replies. Appreciate them.
More valuable than any other type of work? Don’t know. But I do think more high school kids are bussing tables and making milkshakes than commercial fishing. So, in that sense, I was wondering if this type of summer job would be considered unique.
As far as essay material…yah…I thought so too but he’s written his on another topic, equally interesting and more important to him. This is just a job to him and a way to make money, so, he’ll list it under his EC’s I think. Under work.
Thanks Marvin, it is pretty cool. Except for the smell.
