I’m not trying to bash on ANYONE here, but does it annoy anyone on CC that people refer to Pitt as UPitt?

I pretty much spent my teen years on Pitt campus, and I know it kinda annoys students from Pittsburgh (who attend Pitt) when others refer to it as UPitt (“It’s PITT…NOT UPitt!!!”) …any opinions here?

Just wondering what people from other places think :)

“…does it annoy anyone on CC that people refer to Pitt as UPitt?”

Nope. But I think it’s funny when people think Pitt is Penn.

Growing up in Pittsburgh all my life, and (especially) following Pitt’s basketball and football teams most of my life too… it’s PITT! I’ve never heard/seen anyone refer to it as “UPitt” before finding this website… but I guess a decent amount of the people on this website aren’t really Pittsburgh natives/college sports fans, so it’s whatever.

I think people just use it as an abbreviation out of habit, a lot of people put “U” in front of the name instead of saying “University”. I mean it’s more convenient to type than typing out the whole name. Kind of like when people say UMich or UDel (nobody actually calls them that).

Yeah, it’s annoying. No one calls it UPitt in Pittsburgh and it just looks and sounds weird.

And sports fans from other cities often abbreviate the city itself as “Pitt”.
