Classic PJ - very funny. I heard him in an interview say that there are 2 kinds of Irish families: the “hitting” kind and the “teasing” kind, and he comes from a teasing Irish family. There is a touch of violence in his teasing, though!

Politically PJ O’Rourke and I don’t agree on much, but he is funny as hell, going back to his days on the National Lampoon. Though I wouldn’t agree with him about Glenn Beck or Sarah palin on John Boehner being success stories, what he says is very true about the real world of things, that the 4.0 gpa student doesn’t always end up at the top, and often end up buried under layers of kids who didn’t ‘achieve’ according to the formula, and ended up running things:)

Quite funny! This was the line I loved the most …

“Her Lulu has that violin going for her—there’s hardly a Silicon Valley billionaire, Wall Street plutocrat, senator, four-star general, or pope who isn’t a violin virtuoso.”

“But what I did read really put the Freud in my schadenfreude, so to speak.”

LOL! Gotta use that one.

“Plus there’s the cat in the microwave. That shows an inquisitive, experimental turn of mind. You can see how electronic cat-zapping could lead directly to the invention of something like Facebook.”

That reminds me of the NPR-Amherst thread. I’d love to hear the Amherst committee mull over that essay!

Not funny -
“But my kids practice too, hour after hour every day. They practice being jerks. And since almost every boss I’ve ever had was a jerk, this gives them a leg up.”

I guess the emotional and verbal abuse was all worth it, because the tiger cub got into the Ivy League. And they all got their 15 minutes of fame on TV!
Can’t wait for the “Battle Hymn of the Tiger Grandma”.
