On December 21, 1988 270 people, including 35 Syracuse University students, were killed in the terrorist bombing of a Pan Am 747 en-route from London to New York. The bombing was the deadliest terrorist attack on United States civilians until 9/11, and was the largest air disaster in British history.

The 35 Syracuse students were travelling home for Christmas after a study-abroad program in London. This disaster is particularly significant to me this year as my sister, a current Syracuse student, is departing in January to participate in a semester abroad in London. I could not imagine how the families of those lost felt when their loved ones were taken from them on their way home 4 days before Christmas.

May all those lost RIP.
