H and I will be visiting Israel mid-May and crossing into Jordan for a brief trip to Petra. I’ve been to Israel before but it was several years ago and I’ve forgotten what I packed and what felt appropriate. We’ll mostly be in Tel Aviv, but might make it to Jerusalem. Any suggestions?

I have been to Israel several times in the past few years for family weddings and such, and have done a good amount of touring. You don’t really need anything special, although if you will be touring the historic synagogues in Safat, you will need to have your arms covered. If the Dome of the Rock plaza is open for tourists, not the Mosque itself as that is never open for tourists, your husband will have to wear long pants. We were there two years ago and luckily DH had long pants in his backpack as we were flying home later that day and it was August so hot… DH had to put his pants on over his shorts, accompanied to do so by a Palestinian security guard. Otherwise they “rent” men a shawl to cover their legs. I had cropped pants on and had no problems. Check the weather forecast in advance of course. May should be nice… not too hot yet, but still might be cool at night.

Shorts, tshirts, bathing suit, flip flops… that’s what I will be bringing, early May, but I won’t be doing much touring outside of Tel Aviv.

I’m thinking covering legs and arms might be important in some areas. I had a stone thrown at me somewhere on my last trip. I wasn’t sure what I was doing wrong.
