I told S2 I’d pack up his winter stuff to haul out to college. He, like is brother, is so far away we haul everything the first trip and they fly back and forth, use a storage locker after freshman year yada, yada. It’s quite cathartic to dig into the recesses of the closet and find a stray tiny pair of shorts or a long missing sandal that must have been worn about age 7 or so. I’ve never really “gotten into” my kids rooms. It’s their private space but both my boys were quite willing to have me empty the closet and root around in the dresser gathering all the winter gear and packing it for the trip. I just opened a brown box and inside were all the toy soldiers. I’m keeping those since he obviously “kept” them for some reason. Not a tear in my eyes…just lots of good memories and expectations about how much life he’s going to pack into the next four years and beyond. I just put a box next to his bed and told him to go through his “personal drawers” and bookcase between now and leaving and bring what he wants. This fall after he’s gone I’ll take the remaining books down and wall art he leaves and do a thorough cleaning. One more heading out in a couple weeks. Time moves so rapidly. The house that felt so abundant with space when H and I moved in quickly became crowded with kids and “stuff” and now the space is being returned to us.

Congrats on not finding anything stashed away that would cause either you or your son to blush.
