Page 79 of Barron's SAT Literature Book

I’m currently studying for the SATII Literature in the Barron’s book, and I cannot understand the answer to the question on the top of page 79. How is the story exactly, utopian? The book even mentions something about being suspenseful, and yet the book says it is utopian? I do not understand.

Read the question again, carefully. “This selection can be described as all of the following EXCEPT”…
In other words, utopian isn’t supposed to fit.

For the record, I’ve done that before, too. Drove me half-crazy before I realized what was going on. :P
