Paid VS Unpaid medical work (with respect to medical school admission)

Ok, so Ill lay it down for you like A1 on a slab of meat:

I’m an EMT (as of 2 weeks ago), and LOVE it. Ill be a junior at UCLA this Fall, and will be looking into being employed as an EMT either on campus or close by (I will have a soft scheduel this year with much free time). I NEED money like any poor college student, and although EMT’s get paid crap, they still make something. Do medical school have a preference of unpaid medical work over paid medical work, with respect to medical school applicants?

*This is more out of curiousity than anything else, I’ll be looking for EMT employment regardless next Fall.

A very well respected poster on another board (i’m sure you can guess what i’m talking about) said that it works more positively in your favor if you are being paid for something than if you are volunteering since it shows that what you are doing is important enough that someone is willing to pay you.

totally unrelated post

To the OP…If I were you, I’d be hoping that my screenname didn’t become true.

lol, yeah true that Bigredmed…im working on it to say the least ;)

Shraf, that is probably one of the best things I’ve heard with regards to this…but makes you wonder about the quality of care that Doctors w/o Borders provide =P

what’s so great about Doctor Without Borders? Bunch of losers, imo…plus, they’re french!

why are you such a hater ^^^
