Paint my front door

I’ve always liked a red door. We have a fair amount of a very dark red brick close to the color of BunsenBurner’s door, so I didn’t want red. We did a somewhat muted teal. Amusingly about a month later our neighbors painted the door the exact same color. I guess they liked it. I think it’s this color. https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/color-overview/find-your-color/color/672/intercoastal-green I like that Washington Blue very much too.

Nothing gets me more excited than seeing a pretty door! To me, painting your front door with a color you love is a gift to your home.

One question to ask yourself is if you tend to use any other decor on your door - like wreaths. Do you have a favorite Christmas wreath for example? What colors would it look good with?

I always hesitated to paint a front door green because most wreaths I might use would be green so they wouldn’t pop.

I had a red door for years with a green trimmed glass door in front of it. People loved it.

My home is a white sided 2 story New England colonial. No shutters. I recently painted it a brighter navy blue and we replaced the green trimmed glass door with a black edged glass door. I LOVE it.

I went to Benjamin Moore today and picked up a ton of colors!! (I’m also painting the tile around my fireplace.)
Putting the colors against the house and walking away in bright sunlight makes a huge difference. I think Washington Blue may be too dark. I also couldn’t find a red I like that’s bright enough w/o looking orange with the bricks.

SO!!! I’m thinking either Indi Go-Go(csp-565) or Dark Harbor(csp-720) for the door and shutters. And either Bone Black(cw-715) or Through The Looking Glass(csp-495) for the moulding around the transoms and 4 windows (Acadian style home).

We’re also putting this house on the market very soon, so it’s hard to know what someone else will like.

If you are going to put this house on the market soon, don’t paint the door black. First, some feel strong dislikes for black (ugh, funeral?!), second, black shows dirt and dust easily and it is a PITA to keep spotless.

If you’re going to be selling the house think about who will be buying it. A younger generation may like a bolder choice than an older customer. Doesn’t mean it needs to be bright yellow!

Driving up or walking by, a front door is one of the first things I notice and am drawn to…or that makes me not notice the house if it’s blah. If you have a nice door, highlight it!

The neighborhood is a bit mixed. You have some who have been here since the houses first went in (mid-late 90s), but the schools are a draw so there’s alot of very young families as well.

That’s the mix of who is there now. But who will be moving in? Granted it could be anyone but who is the demographic looking for a home in your area?? If you have a 4 bedroom home, it’s not likely to be an empty nest couple buying your home.

I like that Benjamin Moore Forest Green. Just got a new shed for the back yard, but the doors need freshening and this would work. Wish I could do the brown shutters – but some are wood and others (up high and beyond my reach) are plastic. If I stick to the doors, it will be a nice accent, though. We have recycled brick that runs pretty read around each door, so while I’ve thought about deep red, it would probably be too much.

I’m so disappointed. It was only when I used the BM website to virtually add the colors to my door did I see that they aren’t exterior colors. Prussian Blue, anyone?

Did you call the BM store? They might be able to just use the same color formula in an exterior based paint. Paint stores really can do a lot with color now. They can even give you the color of another competitor’s paint! If I go in Sherwin Williams with a BM paint color they can make it!

Even Home Depot can mix a competitor’s paint color. I had a Restoration Hardware color mixed for me. I love it and get lots of compliments on it. Can only assume it is the same color as the RH, though, since I didn’t have the RH color there to compare it to. I had only seen it in a friend’s home.

The guys at the local BM store said they could mix any color in exterior grade paint - except their yellows.

Sweet!!! I’ll go tomorrow! I was outside looking at colors when a large truck full of landscapers pulled up. They’re getting started tomorrow & said it will take about 2 weeks to complete everything! Woo Hoo!

We love our house front door in white oak and stained clear. we had a dark green door and I never loved it the way I love the white oak door, which matches our hardwood floors throughout the house.

Some of these other colors are lovely though. I’d probably go for a nice blue rather than a dark green or black or red. It seems more people like blue and it’s less likely to get any strong negative resection.

Our current door is custom-made size solid wood, stained door. I would not paint it because it is pretty as is. But if it was a regular door, you bet!

^^ I agree that a really beautiful solid wood door can stand on it’s own. But also that means giving attention to the area surrounding the door outside - well painted or maintained. If it’s a front door, I think your entry area is SUPER important to setting the stage for people to be attracted to your home.

No boring black. So many possibilities to choose from mentioned. Let us know what you ended up with, please.

Don’t worry if they call it an exterior color. All colors can be made in the exterior paint.

My opinion on doors is the Bolder the better. Bolder colors will appeal to the young families buying in the neighborhood for the schools

You can always buy a sample size of a few colors, paint poster boards (one color on each), lean it against the door and step back and look. Works best when you have a helper who can switch poster boards so you don’t have to walk back and forth. Go bold. If you don’t like it, paint it again. Paint is the least expensive part of a redo.

Front door colors have meaning?? Some of these made me smile…
My front door is turquoise (which we like) but don’t really think of myself as a romantic dreamer~
