We have about 50 ft. of outside fencing that needs to be painted -H has already sanded it. He wants us to hand paint all the teeny tiny little planks of wood. They are about 1 1/2 " in width all around the plank (I can’t think of the proper word I should be using!) I don’t want to do this!

The area the fencing is in is not near anything that could get damaged by the sprayed paint or plants and such could be covered up as we went along.

Any experience or advice? The one our rental store has is an airless sprayer and rents for about $70 a day.

aaaahhhh you * paint* your fence?

is it cedar?
don’t paint it.
It will age gracefully.
:)

Other than that I don’t have advice with sprayers.

Is it currently painted or stained? I’m guessing painted, since you said H sanded it. I haven’t sprayed paint, but I’ve had very good luck spraying oil semi-transparent stain. I didn’t even rent the airless sprayer–just used the household/garden type pump sprayer. Worked perfectly. Was shot after that but I didn’t care for $18.

I’ve painted a lot in my life–each of those planks would have 4 sides, plus top and bottom. Lots and lots of brushing. I’d go with the spraying!

^^^ or find some kids on spring break and tell 'em how much fun it is.
;)

Yes, it is/was already painted. Part of my frustration is that my H said we would not paint it again, but just replace it with the new stuff that is not made of wood. But alas, he decided to start sanding which means now it has to be painted.

Exactly. Four sides, top and bottom and lots of little grooves where the pieces meet each other. :(

Sounds like he has bribed the kids (our 3) to do some painting tomorrow when the weather is suppose to be great . So he may “win” this one.

Isn’t this from Tom Sawyer?
