Benjamin Moore vs Sherwin Williams ?

Can’t comment on Sherwin-Williams but we’ve been very happy with BM for interior and exterior for several decades.

Love Benjamin Moore.

Hi there boysx3. Im also a fan of Benjamin Moore and I love their color selection.

Haven’t used Benjamin Moore, but am a big fan of Sherwin Williams (plus, they have 35%-40% off coupons from time to time). I have been told they are similar enough that it would come down to color selection in terms of which is best for your purposes.

I have used both, and they’re both good. I personally prefer Benj Moore.
If you want to use one but like a color better in the other brand, just tell the, the color number and they’ll duplicate it for you.

I’ve always used benjamin moore- specifically the historical colors. I need to find a blue/green color and all the bm stores were closed today so i went to sherwin williams. If one of them works I’ll use it, however I just think the colors are richer and better and at benjamin moore.

Have used both- Ben’s def is the winner.

Aura by Benjamin Moore best exterior paint.

We have been very happy using Benjamin Moore paints.

I think I used Aura to paint my porch trim last summer. It was very expensive but, I have to say, it looks like I just painted it yesterday and it is a porch that faces north on the shady side of the house. It is prone to mold, peeling, chipping etc. But this paint job looks fantastic one year later. Well worth the extra cost.

The BM Aura is expensive but oh so velvety smooth. Love it.

I don’t if this matters but the professional painters around here use BM. That may, of course, be marketing, meaning they give what they think the customer wants.

Wow, thanks for all the responses.
We are painting the entire interior of our new condo. The previous owner used a brilliant mustard yellow on every single wall.

^^^I wish we had a quote button. If you’re painting over a bold color be sure to prime first. Yellows are tough to cover. Primer is much cheaper than BM paint any way. I’ve mostly used BM for my house for the past few years. I’ve used them all but I like Benj Moore the best. My best tip is that paint seems to go on sale over holiday weekends. July 4 isn’t that far in the future.

Mathmom is an architect and she likes BM. Has pretty much convinced me that’s the way to go when we finally do our bathroom.

Seconding the recommendation that you use primer before painting over strong color. I’m saying it because it’s true. If you think two coats of paint will cover a strong color, you’ll regret it. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life.

Have always used BM on interiors and always used BM oil based on wood work but now we can’t get it in our state.
Aura for exteriors is absolutely worth the extra cost. Time IS money, after all and I don’t want to spend another summer painting that porch.

I’ve used Sherwin Williams for years. When I bought a new house I succumbed to the BM push, and checked out its paints, too. I ended up using both BM and SW in the house. Sometimes I liked the SW colors better. (It is remarkable to me that while every paint manufacturer has thousands of colors, they all have different colors from each other.) I am far from a paint expert, but my untrained eye sees no difference between BM and SW paints – other than the price. SW is much cheaper, mainly thanks to their frequent coupons.

We are definitely having our painter use primer on that lovely yellow. I am afraid a dozen coats of primer might not be enough! The color is truly obnoxious.
