I’m requesting seats for a group at the Palace theater on-line and cannot tell from the floor plan whether the orchestra seating is stadium seating or just flat. I’m a shortie and don’t want to pay big bucks if I cannot see the stage. Anyone know?

My suggestion is do NOT sit in the first few rows. In most of the theaters I’ve been in in NYC, you are practically looking straight up if you are that close. Personally I like to be able to see the whole stage well. Try to get the center or near center. Don’t sit too far off to the right or the left.

Thump,
Yeah, I found that out from first hand experience. I was so close to the stage for Wicked that I saw the perspiration on the actors faces. Not good! I’m looking at rows above G in orchestra. http://www.palacetheatreonbroadway.com/theatre_files/21/seating_chart/Palace-BO.pdf

kathie: can I suggest the first two rows of center mezzanine instead? we have found much better success with that

Very few theatres are true stadium seating. I can actually only think of one in NYC and it’s an off-Broadway theatre. However, most theatres have an incline, some more gentle than others. There are very few theatres where I’d want to sit in the first four or five rows. Rows G,H,I,J Centre Orchestra are excellent at the Palace, as long as you stay as close to the centre aisle as possible. The problem with that, though, is that those are considered premium seats and thus, are more expensive. The Palace is a huge theatre by Broadway standards. I think there are probably only two or three that are larger so that’s a consideration, too, if you don’t want to be too far from the stage.

Thanks all. I didn’t mean true stadium seating but didn’t know another way to phrase it. I’ve put an e-mail into the box office asking for just the seats you’ve suggested alwaysamom as my pick if the seats are slanted and center first rows mezzanine if they are not - like rodney suggested! :)

Are you going to West Side Story or Priscilla?
Good luck with the tickets.

Priscilla! TWO of our local guys are in it!

It’s fabulous! I’ve seen it here in Toronto twice already! A very close friend is in the show and a couple more who I’ve known for several years. I think it’s going to be a big hit in NYC. :)
