I’m planning a three night trip with my sister. We have decided on the Palm Springs area but need a place to stay. We will split the room cost so budget is generous. My sister wants to get some sun. We are torn between relaxing resort and the desire to be within walking distance of shops and restaurants.
Any suggestions?
We stayed at the Renaissance once. It was a resort but also close (within walking distance) of downtown. We loved it.
We stayed there once. Nice place. The only issue was the walls were paper thin. There is a Marriott Courtyard (?) next door. It was much quieter! We walked to town to eat.
Palm Desert has an upscale walkable shopping area that is nice than Palm Springs.
I’d stay in Palm Springs. It’s more lively and the access to outdoor activities is better. Having said that, a couple of the loveliest hiking spots were recently (two weeks ago) closed due to heavy storm damage. You might want to check and see what the current status is of Tahquitz Canyon is.
If you have a car it doesn’t matter. Some Desert Hot Springs hotels claim to have mineral water pools. Most of Palm Springs hotels don’t. We normally don’t stay in Palm Springs since I am very frugal with spending money on lodging and rather spend on food and entertainment, but that is a personal choice.
I just stayed at the Renaissance this past week and was disappointed. We had a “mountain” view, which meant that the bottom 2/3 of the window was parking lot, and the top 1/3 mountain. Call to see if you can get a pool view. They also didn’t clean our room the second day, and the bathroom was nothing special at all. I didn’t check out the Marriott Courtyard but it was on the same street, so if it’s a fair amount less expensive I’d stay there instead.
There’s not much going on at Desert Hot Springs except the mineral water pools, but it is also closer to Joshua Tree National Park, so it might be good for one night. We went to The Springs for a hot spring, and they were highly rated in Spa Magazine. We thought it was very clean and nice, but very small and very, very quiet. We loved Joshua Tree, and definitely recommend you give a whole day to this.
We will have my car. I’m driving a few hours and will pick her up in Burbank at the airport and continue on. We will do the same on the way back. Our plan is Three nights Monday to Thursday or tues to Friday. Is Villagefest something we shouldn’t miss? I want to see wildflowers and I’ve never been to Joshua tree so would like to do that on one of the days. It’s just a lot of driving since my drive coming and going will be long.
My Sister suggested the Kimpton but I don’t know about the rooftop pool. I also don’t want somewhere that is super hipster. I’ve only been to the area twice and stayed at the Renaissance Esmeralda in Indian Wells. I think while the pool area was nice we would have to drive everywhere. Doing some research on trip advisor and these spots are in our price range- Andreas, Avalon, Andalusian Ct, Holiday House. My sister also suggested Sparrow but I think the rooms only have one bed. Also considering Hotel Paseo in Palm Desert. Any feedback on any of these spots?
