For parents with students at Pamplin (VT) and Smith (UMD) School of Business, where did your kids typically intern? Were they usually places near the campus or farther?
To get better info, reach out to both the Smith and Pamplin career centers - and ask for internship placement reports.
Most, not all kids, intern in summer so location, per se, shouldn’t matter much but UMD based on job placements overall, based on stats they show, is heavy in the the mid atlantic area…but again, that’s all jobs…you are accounting and can go wherever you want.
For permanent jobs, UMD Smith places 27% in MD, 24% in VA, 10% in DC, and 21% in NY.
If I just select accounting, it changes - 34% in VA 32% in MD, 15% in DC, and 13% in NY.
I didn’t see they posted interns.
Both schools should offer you a complete outcomes report, including for interns.
That said,
Here are the permanent (not intern) jobs for Va Tech as well…to give you an idea. I chose accounting as I think you are.
And the UMD link to play with…again, not intern.
But hope that info helps you anyway.
Thanks, I’ll reach out to the schools. I was looking for internship information only.
I understand - unfortunately, they don’t have it but at least you can see the type of firms. Many firms hire their interns. But yes, the schools will have a detailed report.
If you’re looking to see what type of accounting internships are in the DC area, you can run an indeed search - and find out as well. Of course, kids from many schools will apply.
Just go to indeed.com Put accounting summer internship in the descriptor and your zip code and you can do a mileage range.
Hope you ultimately (from the schools) are able to secure the data you are looking for.
They should all publish in detail, but unfortunately they don’t.
Be sure to see internship openings listed by Smith.
And some of the majors have internships. Might be statistics from those departments.
So for example this summer, 25 upper level students could get credit while working an internship.
Thanks! I was curious what was available to the students.
Can search “smith umd intern statistics “
And long list of postings on Smith website comes up.
