I’m going to a yoga retreat at a resort in Panama and will have a two days in Panama City before traveling with a group to the resort. Has anyone here been to Panama? Do you have recommendations on tours of Panama City–I’d also like to see the Panama Canal–been listening to David McCullogh’s book about it. I’ve checked Trip Advisor, but any additional advice on things to see and do would be helpful.
We did a partial crossing of the canal on a boat that held about 200 people. It was interesting, but long. Tour boats have to yield to commercial ships, which had us sitting in the canal for at least two additional hours. Boats are packed tightly in the locks. We could actually reach out and touch the side of one of the locks.
Visited Panama several years ago. At our hotel we coordinated several day tours.
One was to the canal- Miraflores Locks. There is a restaurant there that you can eat lunch & watch the boats traverse the locks- very interesting to see how it works.
Another one was a bus tour (more like a van) around Panama City & the historic district. Our guide was knowledgable about the history of Panama and shared the interesting facts. We also stopped at several of the open markets to make ‘touristy purchase’
Oh- I forgot, we also did a jungle tour at the Gamboa Resort- the aerial tram tour- oh to hear the holler monkeys!! Fun.
The people of Panama are very friendly & willing to help with do’s & don’t’s around the city.
Hope this helps!
