Panicking!!

Sorry for the short question, but it’s VERY IMPORTANT!!

I feel like such an idiot.

I just got my acceptance letter to Santa Clara University, but my mom and I were so confused about the CSS/PROFILE and the FAFSA that we have not turned it in yet. Their priority deadline was Februrary 1, and now I just found it it will take 7-10 days to process. Can anyone pleas offer any advice on what I should do??

Check out their web site:

and then on this page, third item down:

I would do FAFSA and CSS now(do you have your pins?), this weekend, asap. And also maybe call the finaid office at the college on Monday.

First, sit down and complete the FAFSA online. There is a worksheet you can use to help guide the process. It will also tell you what you need to have at your fingertips to complete the forms. Print copies of the final report. When you’re done, breathe a sigh of relief, and then get started on the CSS Profile, also online.

On Monday morning contact SCU financial aid office and let them know you were late in submitting the forms but that they’re done now (get them done by Sunday night…you can do it). Listen to what they tell you and follow their directive to a tee. Likely not to be a major problem.

If you have NOT completed your tax returns for 2006, complete the FAFSA and Profile anyway, using conservative estimates. Next week file your taxes, then go back and make corrections to FAFSA. You will have to hand correct the Profile & mail it in to the college(s). This is ONLY if you have not yet filed income taxes.

Now, go print the FAFSA worksheet, collect your needed documents, and fill out the FAFSA!

GO!

I just emailed SCU financial aid, telling them i will be sending it in late. so phew! that’s done

My mom and I will be completing the CSS/PROFILE tonight.

If my mom is doing the FAFSA on paper, we don’t need a PIN right?

Since you are already three weeks past the original deadline I would recommend doing it online. I think it takes weeks to process if you mail it in. If you do not have a pin you do have to ask for one online and it takes a few days but overall that is still quicker than mailing it.
Make sure you both get a pin!

The quickest time I have ever seen a paper FAFSA processed is two weeks…so since you are already passed the school’s deadline, rlm is right…get the PIN number and submit the FAFSA electronically…this will cut down the processing time by at least a week.

Agreed here too…online for FAFSA. Besides which it’ll do all the math calculations for you, so there’s less chance of error.
