Had been wanting to get H a paperwhite for reading but missed the sale price on Black Friday.
Now the Fire is actually a little cheaper.
Don’t know what to do!
( I have an iPad, but wanted a dedicated reader, he currently is using his ipod)
Fire has color, which some of our ebooks utilize, but paperwhite has eink.

I would pick the paperwhite over the fire every time. The ability to read without the glare is the strongest selling point IMO.

In my opinion, if what your husband wants is to read, you should go with the Paperwhite hands down. I have a tablet and a cell phone, and I have tried a Kindle app on both, but the screen is just not conducive to readings. It’s a pleasure to pick up the Paperwhite and read on it - it makes me want to read - not so with tablet-type screens. Also, tablets have all the other distractions -apps, email, etc. As you can probably tell, I am a huge fan of e-readers. I would forego color any day for the e-ink.

I agree. I love the Paperwhite. I can read it anywhere, now that it’s got a built-in light. I can read it in our dark bedroom or on a beach with bright sun.

Thanks for the quick feedback!

What is the main difference between Paperwhite and Voyage? TIA.

DW spends hours reading her Paperwhite on the deck after dark when it’s warm out.

It seems to be the screen.
One is LED color and the other is eink.

I have tried reading on my iPad and don’t like it much.

Me either.
I like the backlighting because I find it hard to see, but I need my glasses to read in bed with the large ipad, and my phone ( 5) is just a little too small.
H has better eyes than I do though, and he doesn’t read in bed.
He just goes to sleep!
Imagine!

Paperwhite has a light (a front/side light, as opposed to back light), so you can use it to read in bed!

@BunsenBurner The Voyage and Paperwhite both have eInk, but the voyage also has the touch buttons to turn pages. It’s a bit lighter. The screen resolution is higher. The light can be set to adjust automatically to the surroundings. The Voyage also has a shorter battery life, probably because of higher resolution screen.

Thanks, acollestudent! Paperwhite it is then for Mr. B. For $100 extra bucks, he can set brightness manually and have a library of books. :)

Hahaha Yeah, I’ve heard that Voyage is not really necessary. The Paperwhite is amazing - that’s what I have!

Nice gift!

My H loves his Paperwhite. i still prefer my “Paper.” ;)

Paperwhite!!! I own both and never read on the Fire. I am an avid reader, and love my Paperwhite so much. I don’t think the Voyage is worth the price premium. My wealthy friend buys every new Kindle immediately and advised me that the improvements are minor.

P.s. I actually like my Paperwhite better than real books. Never thought I would feel that way.

I have both the paperwhite and the fire. I use the paperwhite to read and the fire to watch videos. I find my fire is much heavier than the paperwhite, it can get tiring to hold if I use it to read.

Among my kid’s friends with new babies, the Paperwhite is popular. Moms breast feeding in the middle of the night and getting some reading done without turning on the lights!
