Parents: College search HELP

Is there any college in the South with:

1) Strong academics (minimum interest in sports)
2) No Greek life or minimum parties with alcohol or drug
3) Peaceful environment with low crime rate
4) Small or medium size
5) Happy friendly students less orientated towards competition
6) Generous with merit aid

There’s probably no school with all your requirements…

Have you looked at Trinity U in San Antonio? Seems to be good on the vast majority of your criteria…

Maybe Hendrix U?

I would say Centre College except for #2 ( there is a Greek presence)

Guilford ?
Keep in mind that just because there are Greeks or booze in the county, one does not have to participate in either. Many campuses have GDI (God DXXX Independents) who proudly do their own thing.

AprilMom, look into Bellarmine University in Louisville. They dont’ get much notice here on CC but they offered wonderful aid and are in a lovely part of Louisville…and right around the corner from the trendy Bardstown Road area. Ranked #16 Best Master’s Universities in South in US News 2009 edition. The school is making a concerted effort to become a leading southern university, and is reaching out to students who come from outside their geographic area. Population 4,000 students. Known for nursing, physical therapy and business. Lacrosse is their only division I sport. Only one sorority on campus.

Rice University is what you’re looking for.

Peaceful > Quaker > South > Guilford. (AKA what HoppingLass said.) Hendrix is good, too–no Greeks, which is rare in the South, and very good reputation for merit.

Rice comes to mind, DD got a $25K merit scholarship. It seems Rice is also the least expensive among all the elite universities. It offers two scholarship one Trustee and another Centuray scholars which comes with a mentor and exclusive research oppertunity.

I’ll third (or is it fourth?) Rice. Great school, strong students, nice environment, not too much funny business (well, compared to many colleges anyway).
