im really getting conflicted advice on this.
so im trying to get over my shyness so i thought id start by approaching a group of guys in the cafeteria (im a girl) and asking to sit with them and eat with them and converse. so i get conflicted advice. Some say do it and make some friends. Others say theyll be wondering who is this chick, be shallow, and reject me and blow me off and think im a creep and said only talk to guys i know…im trying to make new friends. ugh this is making me worse.
anyways what should i do?
Should i go ahead and approach some at lunch and how should i? (like what should I say/do) maybe tap on one of their shoulders and ask if I could sit or what?
Thanks parents.

Are you in college or high school? I thought we went to the same college but your posts kind of suggest you’re in high school so I’m confused.

im in college…

sorry about that i was considering going elsewhere to college but decided to stay here.

Then I’d do this- it’s worked for me here (at MSU). Find someone who is sitting there by themselves and doesn’t appear to be in a hurry (I’d go after dinner or something when there aren’t classes). Go up and ask if you can sit with them. I’ve made a few friends that way.

Talk to people in classes. Generally, you’ll have more shared interests with them.

I wouldn’t approach a group of people though. The dynamics of groups are pretty set and strangers aren’t generally welcomed in that setting.

If you do go to MSU, PM me and I can try to hook you up with some activities or groups you’d be interested in.

Thanks I guess classes might be the best bet…lol I just changed majors so maybe I could ask someone for help. Thanks for the help and I just PMed you.

I’d also suggest clubs or other EC activities.
