<p>Ok. What exactly is the definition of separated? Does it have to be legal with documents and stuff.</p>
<p>What if one of your parents lives in another country and you see them once a year… but your parents are still legally married- does that mean they are separated or married?</p>
<p>Here is a definition I found of separation: </p>
<p>A situation in which the partners in a married couple live apart. Spouses are said to be living apart if they no longer reside in the same dwelling, even though they may continue their relationship. A legal separation results when the parties separate and a court rules on the division of property, such as alimony or child support – but does not grant a divorce. </p>
<p>It depends on the legal situation. I know many parents that are still married but just live in different countries.</p>
