Congrats, Z, if I didn’t say it before. The stress level comes way down with the first acceptance.

ShawWife and ShawD really enjoyed Anna K. Did any of you see that? Django Unchained – is that one I should leave ShawWife home for because of the violence?

Funny/sweet story here: ShawSon is meeting with a prospective customer of his startup next week – he’ll do a real-time demonstration. As CEO (also chief sales, marketing, financial, cooking and bottlewashing officer), he asks the the customer if he can bring one of his developers along. It’s sweet and somewhat funny to watch our little guy assume/try on an adult role. It reminds me of when they’d go out for Halloween with a suit jacket and briefcase. Of course, he’s only a little guy in our memories and it’s for real now.

Plus, he’s probably heard me talking about how we have very good people or that I’m going to bring one of my guys (it was guys as the only female folks were admin/operational until I hired a female Harvard MBA with 8 years of very good experience about six months ago).

Hope everybody is feeling better from flu’s, cataract surgery & so on!
January is a tough month: people get sick & also have to start thinking about tax returns!

I have not seen Anna K, but I will have to keep my eyes open for that to come close by. Our movie selection is sometimes limited. Django was, IMHO, over the top with the level of violence. Yes, intended, but it was very difficult for me to stomach. I have enjoyed other Tarantino films, but this was not a favorite of mine. I would not recommend it for ShawWife.

Eddie, how terrible to hear of the young woman’s death.

I really hate being sick…so boring and unpleasant. I feel like I cursed myself by longing for a nap…yes, I’ve had so many of those that my body is sore. Would one of you send down some chicken soup? I feel like I need to detox, to get all of the OTC meds out of my system. I’m not totally well by any measure, but I feel like I will feel better if all the chemicals are flushed out. I’m about to take a shower that uses up all the hot water in the house.

My house is so messy…seriously distrubing.

Son’s birthday is Monday but we have to celebrate tomorrow because younger D and H have committments on Monday. So at some point I have to wrap some presents.

We did use my illness to watch all of seasons 1 and 2 of Downton Abbey (that I bought H for his birthday.) At the end of the Christmas episode in season 2, H was sobbing. Do they make one of those quote a day calendars of Maggie Smith’s lines? If not, they should. Some are just priceless.

Missypie, tell Hubby that Eddie says “open a can of Progresso and wrap the gifts”. You aren’t the only one in the house capable. Sorry, but pushing my own frustrations towards Texas. Hubby and I are going through huge adjustment with me now being gone 9 or 10 hours a day, three days a week. I am no longer able or willing to do everything at home.

Z…YAY!!! So excited for your D! How wonderful is that?!? What a great accomplishment after all of her hard work. So very happy for her success.

Still have the watery eyes and congestion but I definitely didn’t have the flu. Sending get well wishes to missypie. Good luck to moda for her surgery and hoping eddieo is healing from her cataract surgery. kmc…feel better! A girls weekend is just what you need!

Good luck to shawson with his client meeting! Sending good mojo his way.

sabaray…wish I was walking that much! You must be getting in really good shape!

congrats to all Zetesis awesome!
Eddie was thinking of you, hope the sand goes away soon and you are seeing clearly again
Moda, if you want te surgery and it enhances your life do it, as we have all witnessed life is too short.
Shaw, your son must be so thrilled to have you to talk to
My D2 was interviewed (11 seconds) aboutthe flu at her school, all she said was my mom calls me everyday. somehow, I thought she had gotten one, and now she keeps putting me off, I am serously so anxious about it. i read a book on the great flu and it was scary as heck, spread because of military movements during he war among other things.
Hoping for all to be well. and Hpaay New year, happy to see the returning/new posters, such a good group here.

dte- I am pretty sure that I read the same book about the flu epidemic and I keep thinking about that book lately. Scary! D and her bf tried to get shots but a lot of places were out of the vaccine. Also neither one is feeling really well now. I am kicking myself for not insisting that she get the shot when she was home over the holidays.

Feel better to you who are sick or have sick kids. Best wishes for a speedy recovery for the recovery from surgery. Regardless of the reason for the procedure, I think it’s completely reasonable to worry not only about the eyes, but your appearance. My mother had eye surgery to open her narrow eyes. The procedure was recommended so she could greatly increase her field of vision. She was so stressed about her appearance, and indeed she was pretty red and swollen at first. Now, however, she loves her new vision and the cosmetic result.
Eddie, the loss of a life so young is especially painful. My sympathies.
Best wishes for to ShawS on his various proposals!
Thanks for the Django opinion, Sabaray. For that reason, I haven’t been so anxious to see this film. Maybe it’ll be better on DVD.

S1 returned from his interview. Now he’ll have to wait to see if he gets an offer. He still is somewhat blind as to how difficult it is to gain employment. We’re trying to pump him up for graduate school; why does grad school seem so much less appealing? I, myself, miss those days!

When I asked D2 what she was up to today she replied “flu shot.” Who would think that would thrill me, but it did! Of course, now she needs to follow thru.

You can google Maggie Smith to get some great mash ups of her lines. Or maybe it’s countess. My cousin posted one on facebook that was pretty funny. She does indeed get the best lines!

H went to San Antonio this morning… I am supposed to be doing major work in his office since he turns purple at the thought of anyone touching his things in his presence. it’s kind of ocd if you ask me, but no one is.

We have been on a campaign all week for S1 to get the flu shot. (S2 dutifully got one in October when he saw a sign on campus.) Ready to resort to bribery. Any suggestions?

Django Unchained is classic Tarantino. Exaggerated violence of almost a cartoonish nature. Two middle aged women did get up and leave about 2 hours into it(it’ s a very long movie) but not sure if it had to do with the violence or not. Also lots of use of the N word. If you’ve liked other Tarantino films like Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill, you would probably like it . But it’s the kind of film that’s probably not for everybody. The performances were great. I especially loved Christoph Waltz , who is nominated for an Oscar.

S2 got a flu shot in October on campus. DH got one in Nov. at work. I got one at CVS in October. S1 is California and I have no idea if he has gotten one. (I leave health care decisions to him and his lovely spouse.) I will assume Skype does not transmit the flu virus from 3,000 miles away. ;)

ShawD had to get a flu before starting her clinical rotations. ShawSon was worn down by repeated exhortations and got one at Thanksgiving break at our local CVS. But, he used to have pretty fragile health and was on the at risk end of the spectrum and had flu shots in the old days even when they were in short supply.

My best friend called a few minutes ago. Mr. Fang talked to him, then turned him over to me. Turns out another friend of ours is visiting him, so he asked if we wanted to come to dinner. Mr. Fang said yes, so I told BF we’d come, and we discussed what we’d bring.

Then after I hung up, Mr. Fang said, hey, wait a minute, BF was saying that he has had fevers and achiness, but he is getting better now. I had the unenviable task of calling BF and telling him that no, we weren’t coming to dinner after all, because I’m not bringing my asthmatic husband over to catch the flu. (In a cowardly manner, blaming it all on my husband, even though I don’t want to catch the flu either, at all.) What was BF thinking? “Come over and share our germs?” Hello? We’ve been sick with cold-y things for a month. The last thing we need is the flu, even though we’ve had shots.

Okay, so I promise not to post every acceptance, but D2 got into Berkeley. That’s one of her top 2-3 choices, and one of the top schools in the country for organic chemistry. She is on cloud nine. Some day I’ll post more about it all; right now we are just ecstatically exulting with her.

Berkeley, by the way, is also one of the premier sites in the country for aerial silks. I think it was practically invented there. So, Woody, yes!!
